Has research demonstrated that all forms of meditation and relaxation the same? |
Randomized controlled research has found that the Transcendental Meditation technique is more effective than Mindfulness Meditation, meditation techniques modeled on TM, concentration meditation, mantra meditation, napping, and Progressive Muscle Relaxation.
Five systematic quantitative reviews of all the data, called meta-analyses, found that the Transcendental Meditation technique is superior to all other forms of meditation and relaxation studied for lowering anxiety, reducing drug and alcohol abuse, decreasing cigarette consumption, improving psychological health, and increasing self-actualization.

Has the research on the Transcendental Meditation program been discredited by a committee for the National Research Council? |
Reports on meditation research by the National Research Council did not cite a large body of research on the Transcendental Meditation program.
They ignored definitive studies on the effects of meditation on human performance. Even after this evidence was brought to their attention, they continued to ignore evidence contrary to their conclusions.

Research on the Transcendental Meditation program has been conducted in 200 independent universities and research institutions and published in over 160 reputable scientific journals and edited books.
All of the major findings have been replicated.

Some of the research on the Transcendental Meditation program has been conducted by scientists who do not practice the technique.
In addition, most of the recent major studies are collaborations between meditating scientists and non-meditating scientists from outside universities.

Are meditating scientists committed to the scientific method? |
A study conducted at Harvard University found that in response to research on the Maharishi Effect, non-meditating scientists were strongly influenced by their emotions, preconceptions, and deeply entrenched worldviews.
Meditating scientists, on the other hand were found to be committed to the scientific method and to empirical testing of all alternative explanations suggested by critics.

Have scientists and educational institutions associated with the TM organization been recognized by the larger academic and scientific community? |
Maharishi University of Management is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and it is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Students, indicating that a team of experts found the faculty, teaching methodology, and facilities meet the high standards of University education.
The university, its associated primary and secondary schools and their students and faculty have won many honors, special awards, and competitive grants.

Has there ever been scientific research that showed the Transcendental Meditation program has harmed anyone? |
None of the more than 600 studies on the Transcendental Meditation program have ever found it to be harmful in any way.
The very few papers claiming that the Transcendental Meditation program has adverse effects were not controlled and their conclusions are not supported by large body of controlled research.
